Training Runs Start This Saturday!

March 22, 2013 at 6:26 AM

The time is here for the drive to the annual Dunn Tire Mountain Goat Training Runs sponsored by OrthoNOW!

The big change this year is that construction on the Woodland Reservoir will cause the training runs and the 35th annual Goat to take a slightly different route. Instead of taking the traditional left on Hancock and running past the reservoir access road, you will now continue up Stolp Avenue 100 yards to Rider Avenue and make a left there. It rejoins Hancock Avenue in less than 1/4 mile. The overall distance for the first training run is about 5.75 miles.

LogoIn addition, as we published in the last newsletter, we are going to be making sure all the rules for the training runs are enforced in order to keep the series going. There has been concern expressed by the Syracuse Police Department over whether we can keep such a large group safe during the runs. The answer is completely up to you. Please help us by getting rule breakers in line and follow these simple rules yourself:

  • No ear buds and/or music devices
  • Run no more than two across and stay to your left
  • Do not run down the middle of any street
  • Obey all stop signs, traffic signals, and Syracuse Police Officers
  • No baby strollers or dogs allowed for the safety of the group
  • Streets are open to traffic, so give motorists the right of way

Everyone must sign the training waiver and pay $5 for the training series wristband. It is the best deal you are ever going to get. Proceeds from the wristband sales go to offset our police traffic costs and we kick in a dollar to the MOST for every band sold. If you have not done so already, download the waiver, fill it out and bring it to Fleet Feet Sports before Friday evening and purchase your band for $5. If you can't make it to Fleet Feet in advance you can bring it on Saturday morning, but come early to avoid the lines. The doors open at 7:15 a.m.
