Week 3 Training Run Information

April 05, 2013 at 10:46 AM

It was a better day last Saturday and many of you ran in the sun as the Mountain Goat Training series got back on track after the week 1 weather issue.

No doubt that those who had not seen the action up at the Woodland Reservoir got their first peek at the work going on and why the Goat is having to make a little detour around it this year. We once believed that this would be a one-year change but have since learned that pending the progress, there is the possibility that the project will continue into 2014. We are monitoring the situation but really will not know for sure until late fall.

One other change on the course that we have not publicized, until now, is of our own doing and we think will enhance the Goat. We are cleaning up the University section of the course to create less turns and traffic congestion for runners and better vehicle traffic in the University area. In 2013, runners will head down Comstock Avenue, but will NOT be making the right hand turn on to Stratford Street and the subsequent left onto Ostrom Avenue before the hard right into the Rose Garden and Thornden Park. Instead, runners will proceed down Comstock and make a right hand turn onto University Place, which then heads directly into the Rose Garden. This will save two turns and eliminate congestion on Stratford and Ostrom due to runner traffic and parked cars.

Week 3 Training Run Information

Week three training on tap for this Saturday will follow the first half of the course and return on Salina Street. Enjoy the run back to the MOST on Salina Street because it's entirely flat, unlike what you will face next week as we tackle the Colvin Street Hill for the first time in 2013.
